Get your footage back.
Footage Back reads your card or drive without writing to it, shows what can be saved, and brings it back as new files on another drive. Scanning, previews and copying whole files back cost nothing.

First: stop using the drive
Do not record on it again
Everything written to the drive can overwrite footage that is still there. Take the card out of the camera and do not format it.
Open Footage Back before you connect it
Footage Back opens a drive you connect read-only, so that macOS writes nothing to it either.
Have a second drive ready
What you bring back is written as new files to another drive, never to the one you recover from.
Install
Open the disk image
Drag Footage Back to Applications and open it from there, not from the disk image. It is signed by its developer and checked by Apple.
Allow the system helper
To read a drive directly, Footage Back installs a helper that macOS asks you to allow, and asks for Full Disk Access. The first screen shows each step. Do this before you connect the drive.
Connect the drive and search
Whole files are copied back free. Recordings that have to be rebuilt show their price before you pay. You remove the helper and everything it stored under Settings, Remove Footage Back.
What you need
- A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) and macOS 14 or later.
- A second drive with enough free space for what you bring back.
For Blackmagic RAW
The free Blackmagic RAW software from Blackmagic Design, version 6.0 or 5.1. To rebuild a damaged recording, one intact clip from the same camera with the same settings: Footage Back looks for one on your drive and asks for one when there is none.
