Terms of use for Footage Back

Version of 19 October 2026.

1. Who we are

Footage Back is made and sold by Jonathan Emanuels, Letlandsestraat 20A, 3028 EE Rotterdam, the Netherlands, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 68940726, VAT number NL218384865B01. You reach us at support@footageback.com.

2. What Footage Back does

Footage Back is an application for macOS that looks for camera footage and other files on a drive, shows what it finds, and writes what it brings back as new files to another drive. It reads the drive you choose and never writes to it.

What can be brought back depends on what is still on the drive. We do not promise that any particular file or recording can be brought back, that a rebuilt recording is complete, or that it has sound. Before you pay, the application shows you previews and says where a recording was repaired, is damaged or is incomplete.

3. What is free and what is paid

Scanning a drive, viewing what was found, watching previews and copying back files that are still whole are free, without a limit. Previews carry a watermark.

A purchase is needed only to bring back recordings that the application rebuilds frame by frame because their file was cut off or damaged.

4. A purchase

  • A purchase covers the rebuilding on one drive, up to the length of rebuilt footage you choose: up to 1 minute, up to 10 minutes, up to 1 hour, or everything on the drive. What each costs is shown before you pay. Prices include VAT.
  • Everything on the drive covers every recording you bring back from that drive within 90 days of the payment. After those 90 days, newer recordings need a new purchase at its full price, under the same licence code.
  • Recordings you have brought back under a purchase can be brought back again without paying again, also after the 90 days.
  • If you later want more rebuilt footage from the same drive than your purchase covers, you pay the difference.
  • A drive has one purchase. If it was bought already, use the licence code of that purchase on any Mac.
  • After payment the application shows a licence code. The code is your proof of purchase: with it you can use the purchase on another Mac that the drive is connected to. Keep it. If you lose it, we can give you a new one when you send us the order number from your payment receipt.
  • A purchase is for the drive it was made for. It cannot be moved to another drive.

5. Payment

Payment is handled by Stripe. You enter your payment details on Stripe's page; we do not receive them. The purchase is complete when Stripe has confirmed the payment to us.

6. Immediate delivery and the right of withdrawal

Your licence is digital content that is delivered as soon as you have paid. On the payment page you ask us to deliver it immediately and you acknowledge that you thereby lose the right to withdraw from the purchase that consumers otherwise have for 14 days.

7. Refunds

Our refund policy says when we refund a purchase although the right of withdrawal has ended. It is part of these terms.

8. Using the application

You may install and use Footage Back on Macs you own or manage. You may not resell, rent out or redistribute the application or a licence code, and you may not remove or get around the checks that tie rebuilt recordings to a purchase.

The application contains open-source software under the licences listed in the application under About, Open-source licences.

To show, repair and check Blackmagic RAW footage the application needs the Blackmagic RAW software from Blackmagic Design, which you install yourself under Blackmagic Design's own terms. Footage Back is not made, endorsed or supported by Blackmagic Design or by any camera maker. Product names are the property of their owners.

9. What you are responsible for

  • You only use Footage Back on drives and footage you are entitled to use.
  • You bring files back to a different drive than the one you recover from, with enough free space.
  • You stop using a drive you want to recover from for anything else. Every write to it can destroy footage that is still recoverable.
  • You keep your own copies of what you bring back.

10. Our liability

Footage Back helps you get back footage that would otherwise be lost. It cannot make whole what is gone. To the extent the law allows:

  • we are not liable for footage that cannot be brought back or is incomplete, for lost income or other indirect loss;
  • our total liability for a purchase is limited to the amount you paid for it.

These limits do not apply to loss caused by our intent or gross negligence, and they do not take away rights that the law gives consumers and that cannot be set aside by agreement, such as the right to a product that conforms to the agreement.

11. Changes

We can change the application and these terms. For a purchase, the terms that applied when you bought it keep applying.

12. Law and disputes

Dutch law applies. If you are a consumer living in another country of the European Union, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your own country. Disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands, unless the law gives you the right to go to the court of your own place of residence.
